To bring into being our dreams, we need to align our self-image with the life of worth we would love to live. As children of God, we are created for richness, joy, and fulfillment. If your sense of deserving isn’t wide and deep enough to hold your dream, you may fall short of achieving it.
How do you know if you deserve your dream? If you are breathing, you deserve to have your heart’s desire as it aligns with God’s purpose. Simply by virtue of being alive, you are worthy and deserving of your dream. You wouldn’t feel the longing if you didn’t have the capacity to see it happen. Psalm 139:14 declares, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Three Keys to Increasing Your Sense of Deserving
- Focus on the Good
Circumstances are bad only if you perceive them as such. Instead of panicking when life throws you a curveball, wait and invite God to reveal the good. Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Trust in His plan and give yourself the same grace.
- Let Go of Past Mistakes
It’s hard to move confidently into the life of worth you imagine if you are carrying dead weight. When you persist in carrying the baggage of shame, childhood wounds, or the belief that you are unlovable, you create barriers to possibility. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Release the baggage that weighs you down and embrace God’s promise of renewal and redemption.
- Practice Gratitude
An “attitude of gratitude” enables you to construct your dream on a solid foundation of worthiness. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 urges us to, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Begin by spending a day giving thanks for the people and situations you may have criticized. Build a habit of daily gratitude, and watch as the field around your appreciation expands, attracting even greater blessings into your life.
